“From the Coolest Corner”. Exhibition of contemporary Nordic jewelry.
by Cashmere Wrap & Macadamia Nuts
This weekend I had an opportunity to visit an exhibition of modern Nordic jewelry presented by Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (Kunstindustrimuseet) in Oslo. The exhibition was a result of a contest in which participated as many as 219 artists from Northern Europe. After evaluation of submitted works, the jury selected and invited 61 artists to participate in the exhibition.
I was highly impressed by innovative works proving that nowadays jewelry can be made out of numerous and not always obvious materials and fabrics. I was most surprised, not to say shocked, by pieces made of moths (hope they were not “organic”…). Seems that some glitter and right setting can make them into an ornament for different sort of “night butterflies”.
Exhibition is open for visitors until 21st April 2013. Afterwards it starts a tour around Northern Europe in the period of 2013 and 2014. All details available at exhibition website http://www.coolestcorner.no
After this memorable encounter with contemporary jewelry I went three floors upstairs to find myself in a retro paradise… but this is a story for another day.
