This week belongs to Chanel, one of the most prominent and desired brands in the modern fashion world. It is a synonym of luxury, quality and true understated elegance. To begin with, an outline of key events from the long history of the House of Chanel.

19/08/1883 – Gabrielle Chanel is born

1910 – Gabrielle “Coco’ Chanel opens Chanel Modes at 21 rue Cambon in Paris, first boutique offering female hats

1912 – second Chanel boutique opens at Deauville introducing a collection of sportswear made of jersey

1915 – third Chanel boutique being the first Couture House opens in Biarritz

1921 – Chanel introduces the first signature scent called Chanel No.5

1926 – Gabrielle Chanel creates the first Little Black Dress

1932 – Chanel introduces line of extravagant diamond jewelry “Bijoux de Diamants”

1939 – Chanel closes all boutiques except rue Cambon, which continues to sell perfumes and accessorize during the whole period of WW II

1945 – Gabrielle Chanel closes the House of Chanel and moves to Switzerland

1954 – Gabrielle Chanel, aged 71, returns to Paris to reopen Chanel fashion house and to present first post war collection

1955 – Chanel introduces iconic 2.55 quilted handbag

10/01/1971 – Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel dies in Paris

1983 – Carl Lagerfeld appointed an Artistic Director of  the House of Chanel
