Postcards from Milan. Architecture.

The city architecture in Milan is very fine, though your head might be spinning from looking high up to appreciate it. Houses have wonderful terraces filled with flowers, many of the roof terraces look like small gardens with real trees. Windows are accompanied by shutters that protect inhabitants from afternoon heat. Last, but not least, lovely patios are hidden behind portico gates, like this one at famous Corso Como 10.

Postcards from Milan. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

It is rarely that a building makes such impression, not only for amazing architecture and rich ornamentation but also for its selection of best Italian designer shops as well as welcoming cafes where one can enjoy a great deal of people watching (and in a city like Milan there is a lot to see!).

French Week. Jeudi. Subjective Paris City Guide.

Paris is the capital of world fashion and offers many attractions and iconic spots for those, who love Parisian style, elegance, vibe and… exquisite chocolates! Here, a subjective selections of places related to the history of Haute Couture, French perfumery, entertainment and some divine sweet delights!

There are several Ladurée tea rooms in Paris (on Champs Elysées for example), so make sure to find your nearest and do not fail to visit, if only once! French toasts are quite divine and make for a very decadent breakfast, so if in the need for some “spoil me time”, this is exactly the place! As a take out, try delicious (and world famous) macaroons, you may get dizzy looking at all the colors, just don’t get discouraged by the long waiting line, they are well worth it.

Le Maison Guerlain. 68 Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Paris.

The iconic store of Guerlain, one of the most iconic french perfumers as well as one of the most renowned in the world, is definitely worth a visit, if not for a purchase, at least for the experience.

Chanel. 31 Rue Cambon, Paris.

This is the mecca of Haute Couture, one of the world most renowned addresses, the iconic flag ship Chanel store, where collections were presented by Mademoiselle herself, watching the show from the heights of famous mirrored staircase.

Dior. 30 Avenue Montaigne, Paris.

An iconic location associated with another great Couturier, Christian Dior. This is where the New Look was brought to life and for the first time presented to the world, the historical heart of the House of Dior.

Le Maison Angelina. 226 Rue de Rivoli, Paris.

Angelina is one of the most renowned tea rooms in Paris, elegant and sophisticated, making one feel like travels back in time are still possible, as it preserved an atmosphere of an old time glamour. It is not far from Louvre, so it is a perfect destination after visiting world famous art collection. Angelina offers a great selection of teas and coffees as well as sweet delights so tempting, that it is very hard to make a pick and select just one! For those with bigger appetite, there is a counter where one can purchase “to go”, not only cakes, but also teas, chocolates and other goods that make an excellent souvenirs.

Moulin Rouge. 82 Boulevard de Clichy, Paris.

Controversial and widely discussed cabaret all the way from its opening in 1889 and up till this day. Previously in the centre of attention for its loose morales and scandalous performances, currently for its commercial edge and Las Vegas nightclub esthetics. Whatever one may say about Moulin Rouge, it started a certain artistic movement, while being located at the notorious Montmartre, it was the centre of Parisian night life in the beginning of the XX Century, for these reason only it is worth a long subway ride.

Postcards from Amsterdam. Window Shopping.

When it comes to small shops and vintage fashion, Amsterdam has something new to offer at every street corner. I was amazed by the number of boutiques specializing in vintage – from high end to bazaar type second-hand warehouses. From my search I brought two beautifully embroidered Chinese morning capes in rich silk as well as traditional japanese kimono.

Postcards from Amsterdam. Twilight in the City.

I arrived to Amsterdam in the late afternoon and walking through the streets as twilight started to settle, I couldn’t stop admiring the beauty of this city.

Postcards from Munich. Mischief Managed.

Starting a day from a cup of good coffee is one of my special treats when travelling, especially that local Starbucks was just around the corner from the hotel…

… lunch, on the other hand, required some more effort, but a thought about a savory Kaiserschmarrn at Rischart would make me walk from Maximilianstrasse up to Marienplatz…

… and since I so enjoy living in hotels, with a little help from Zara Home I decided to bring the comfort of a hotel room into my own bedroom…

… (not to mention some more window shopping at Chanel, Cartier and Hermés)

… but before saying goodnight, I enjoyed evenings in Munich, like here in Barista at Fünf Höfe.

All in all, I had a wonderful time and am looking forward to my next travel!

Postcards from Munich. Christmas in Munich.

The new city hall is a centre of Marienplatz, a main tourist destination in Munich. In December it is turned into a Christmas market called Christkindlmarkt, with stalls offering variety of Christmas decorations, food specialties, gifts as well as all kinds of other gadgets. If you feel like exploring the vendor offer, make sure to dedicate good time and.. patience, as market place is crowded all day long, getting more lively after dark. A glass of Glühwein beforehand is a good idea, once to keep warm, secondly to stay calm making your way through the crowd of excited buyers.
